Adams Elementary, located on the north side of Sheridan, currently serves approximately 495 children in grades K-5. The building, constructed in 1932, is rich in Sheridan tradition. An overall remodeling project was completed in 1983, and improvements continue with an addition of an elevator to this 3-story facility in 1997. Adams is highlighted by a state of the art computer technology lab, a "gifted and talented" classroom, and expanded rooms for art and music instruction. Athletic fields for baseball and football are also part of the campus.
Faculty members are determined to provide the highest quality of educational opportunities for students in Sheridan. Our elementary schools have been awarded many grants from the State of Indiana. These grants provide students and faculty with up-to-date technology and teaching practices. Teachers are positive and encourage student performance, which helps strengthen each child's self-esteem.
Sheridan Elementary Schools were accepted into the C.L.A.S.S. Program (Connected Learning Assures Successful Students) in the spring of 1995. This program incorporates daily life skills into the K-5 curriculum. Those life skills include integrity, Initiative, Flexibility, Perseverance, Organization, Sense of Humor, Effort, Common Sense, Problem-Solving, Responsibility, Patience, Friendship, Curiosity, Cooperation, and Caring.
Extracurricular activities foster leadership and positive self-esteem. Activities offered include POPS (Power Of Positive Students), Just Say No, Choir, Tone Chimes, Drama, Flag Attendants, Technology Club (ATT), Library Volunteers, Cafeteria Volunteers, Athletic Programs, and community activities such as Cub/Boy Scouts, Brownies/Girl Scouts, 4-H, and Pathways.
